The Great Depression cont.
This cartoon, Spirit of the New Deal was a support of President Roosevelt's New Deal program. It depicts Uncle Sam, the modern symbol of the U.S.A, between an employer and an employee wearing New Deal labels. This symbolizes the New Deal being the link to peace between employers and employees.
In the Great Depression, many companies were big factories with many people working in them. The working conditions were poor, and the pay was little. Eventually, many workers went on strike to protest. This caused riots, beatings, and brutal violence done to strikers and their families to discourage people from striking against the unfairness caused by employers.
